Kaz LogoAward Ceremony Set for Friday

The 2008 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award will be presented this Friday (March 21) at an award ceremony and dinner in Duluth, Minn. Set to take place at the Radisson Hotel Duluth Harborview, the ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. CDT, with a reception preceding at 5:30 p.m. Angela Ruggiero will serve as the master of ceremonies of the 11th annual event, while the NCAA Women’s Frozen Four participating teams – Harvard University, the University of Minnesota Duluth, the University of New Hampshire and the University of Wisconsin – are expected to be in attendance.

TrioFinalists Named

On March 12, The USA Hockey Foundation announced the three finalists for the 2008 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. The trio includes sophomore forward Meghan Agosta (Ruthven, Ont./Mercyhurst College), sophomore goaltender Kim Martin (Stockholm, Sweden/Univ. of Minnesota Duluth) and junior forward Sarah Vaillancourt (Sherbrooke, Que./Harvard Univ.). They were among this year’s top 10 with Melissa Boal (Pakenham, Ont./Wayne State Univ.), Tessa Bonhomme (Sudbury, Ont./The Ohio State Univ.), Caitlin Cahow (Branford, Conn./Harvard Univ.), Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Univ. of New Hampshire), Martine Garland (Toronto, Ont./Univ. of New Hampshire), Sabrina Harbec (St. Hubert, Que./St. Lawrence Univ.) and Gigi Marvin (Warroad, Minn./Univ. of Minnesota).

There are a limited number of tickets left for the 2008 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Dinner. Individual tickets may be purchased for $75 by calling 603-986-6928. The award ceremony is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 21, with a reception at 5:30 p.m.

An award of The USA Hockey Foundation, the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award recognizes the accomplishments of the most outstanding player in NCAA Division I women’s ice hockey each season. Other selection criteria include outstanding individual and team skills, sportsmanship, performance in the clutch, personal character, competitiveness and a love of hockey. Consideration will also be given to academic achievement and civic involvement.
